Description: Doctor Albert-Marie Sormany was born in Lamèque on August 20, 1885 and died in Edmundston on October 16, 1970. After having attended the Convention Nationale in Saint-Basile in 1908, and having obtained his Medical Degree in Montreal, he decided to settle in Edmundston. He became a radiologist at Hôtel-Dieu in Saint-Basile in 1928. From 1939 to 1942, he was part of the teaching staff at the Nursing School at Hôtel-Dieu de Saint- Basile; from 1953 to 1965, he was biology teacher at Collège Saint-Louis. In 1913 he co-founded with Max Cormier, the newspaper "Le Madawaska". He was Mayor of Edmundston from 1914-1915. He was the founding president of l'Association acadienne d'éducation in 1936. He was President of the School Board from 1940 to 1949. From 1927-1951 he was President of the Société mutuelle l'Assomption. In 1972, the high school in Edmundston was named in his honour, Cité des Jeunes A.-M.-Sormany.
