Description: Pio H. Laporte was born in Verchères, Quebec on Setember 1, 1878. After his studies at Laval University and at the Medical School of Paris, he found himself practising medicine at Hôtel-Dieu Hospital in Saint-Basile. He was Mayor of Edmundston from 1912-1913,from May 2 to 25, 1915 and from 1917 to 1919. In 1935 he was elected Liberal Member of the Legislature in Fredericton where he also served as Minister of Health and Labour from 1938-1939. He died on July 29,1939 in Saint-Basile at the age of 60, following a car accident.
