Description: At the unveiling of the historic fresco by the artist Claude Picard, the Republic of Madawaska publicly recognized the special status of the inhabitants of the Saint-Basile Malecite reserve by naming Mrs. Margaret Bernard vice-president of the Republic of Madawaska; from left to right: Mrs. Margaret Bernard, chief of the Malecite Indian reserve of Saint-Basile; Mr. Les Perley of Grand Falls, representative of the Union of New Brunswick Indians and president of the Republic of Madawaska; and the mayor of Edmundston, Mr. Delbert M. Plourde.
